Seven games were on tap this week for the ABL as the teams continue jockeying for position. There were two teams that went unscathed in their two assignments this week as the Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club handled the Saigon Heat and CLS Knights Indonesia in back-to-back days while San Miguel Alab Pilipinas continued their winning streak by defeating the Mono Vampire Basketball Club and the Knights.
Because of their dominance this week, athletes from both teams once again made it to our list of Players of the Week.
World Import Player of the Week
Renaldo Balkman, San Miguel Alab Pilipinas
For the second straight week, Renaldo Balkman is the World Import Player of the Week not just because of his numbers but because of the odds he faced, especially in their first game this week against Mono Vampire and their towering import Sam Deguara. Against the Thailand-based team, Balkman finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block, where he made the game-winning basket.
He followed it up with 36 points and 10 rebounds in Alab’s road win against the Knights, their seventh straight victory.
Justin Howard, Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club – 22.5 ppg, 16.5 rpg, 3.0 bpg, 69 FG%
Anthony Tucker, Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club – 18.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 11 apg, 42FG%
Marcus Elliot, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team – 24 points, 11 rebounds, 15 assists, 8 of 14 FGs
Chris Charles, Singapore Slingers – 34 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks, 11 of 26 FGs
Heritage Import Player of the Week
Mikh McKinney, Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club
If Balkman is enjoying his second straight Player of the Week award, Kung Fu’s McKinney is already on his third. The Filipino-American has relieved Anthony Tucker of the pressure on him to score so much game in and game out. Instead, with Tucker having more energy in grabbing rebounds and dishing out assists, Kung Fu has looked better as a team.
McKinney averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals and shot 68% from the field this week.
Tyler Lamb, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team – 28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, 9 of 18 FGs
Joshua Munzon, Westports Malaysia Dragons – 23.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 6 apg, 35 FG%
Local Player of the Week
Luo Yongxuan, Chong Son Kung Fu
For the first time this season, a member of the Kung Fu was selected as the Local Player of the Week. With back-to-back double-digit performance, Luo Yongxuan (11.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3 apg, 47 FG%) helped his team secure two wins that allowed them to stay right behind the league-leading Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team.
His scoring will be crucial for Kung Fu in their upcoming games as San Miguel Alab Pilipinas is hot on their heels in the race for the second spot.
Ray Parks, San Miguel Alab Pilipinas – 13.5 ppg, 3 rpg, 4 apg, 52 FG%
Kuek Tian Yuan, Westports Malaysia Dragons – 17 ppg, 6 rpg, 1 pg, 52 FG%
