It was a busy week with five games in the ASEAN Basketball League. It saw four teams get wins on the road and one game needing an overtime period to decide a winner. This week also saw it’s fair share of stat sheets stuffed by individuals and three of them made it to the ABL’s list of Players of the Week.
World Import Player of the Week
Xavier Alexander, Singapore Slingers
Although it’s tough not to give the honors to Anthony Tucker after he got his second straight triple double and led Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club to their third straight win, another World Import simply had a better triple-double.
Xavier Alexander, the do-it-all forward of the Slingers helped his team secure a huge away win as they defeated Tanduay Alab Pilipinas with a spectacular fourth quarter. He shot an efficient 9 of 19 from the field and added 4 steals to his tally.
Anthony Tucker, Chong Son Kung Fu BC- 22 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists, 9 of 17 FGs
Justin Howard, Chong Son Kung Fu BC – 31 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 11 of 17 FGs
Heritage Import Player of the Week
Paul Zamar, Mono Vampire Basketball Club
The Mono Vampire Basketball Club ended the week unscathed, getting a win at home and a win on the road in Week 3. They had big games from World Imports Reggie Johnson and Patrick Sanders while Jason Brickman continued his stellar all-around play but it was the scoring of Filipino guard Paul Zamar that gave them the edge.
Zamar was on fire in the first half of Mono Vampire’s win against CLS Knights Indonesia and did not miss a single shot. While he did not shoot as well in their next game against the Dragons, his output helped the Thai squad sit near the top of the standings as they’re currently tied with the Slingers at the third and fourth spots with their 2-1 win-loss record.
Zamar averaged 19 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game on 62% shooting from the field.
AJ Mandani, Singapore Slingers – 17 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, 7 of 16 FGs
Tyler Lamb, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team – 25 points, 12 rebounds, 9 of 23 FGs
Local Player of the Week
Lee Ki, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team
It was a tough decision in picking the Local Player of the Week as three teams that got wins this week all banked on one of their locals to help them get the job done. However, Lee Ki’s contributions to Hong Kong Eastern’s win over the CLS Knights Indonesia had more weight as a lot of his points came during their rally in the third quarter to get back into the game.
Lee had 17 points and 8 rebounds in the game but the most telling statistic was that his team was a +20 in the 39 minutes he spent on the floor.
Guo Kai, Chong Son Kung Fu BC – 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 8 of 11 FGs
Delvin Goh, Singapore Slingers – 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 of 8 FGs
Ting Chun Hong, Westports Malaysia Dragons – 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 9 of 12 FGs
Teerawat Chantachon, Mono Vampire Basketball Club – 8 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.5 BPG
