The Mono Vampire Basketball Club had the best week among the nine teams in the ABL as they took down two contenders in the Singapore Slingers and Saigon Heat.

Because of their success, two of Mono Vampire’s players won the Player of the Week honors.

The Slingers were 1-1 this week but the surge in one of their locals’ performance was undeniable and was enough to complete the group for this week.

World Import Player of the Week

Samuel Deguara, Mono Vampire Basketball Club

Replacing a former ABL World Import MVP is a risky decision but it has worked out in Mono Vampire’s favor because they got a giant in Sam Deguara. He has been unstoppable inside even as the opposing teams send double- or triple- and even sometimes quadruple-teams on him. Against the Slingers, he had 26 points and 18 rebounds against another 7-footer and proven defensive expert in Chris Charles.

Deguara followed that up with 20 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocks as Mono Vampire took down the Heat in the last game of the week.

Notable contenders:

Chris Charles, Singapore Slingers – 21 ppg, 13 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2 bpg, 55 FG%
Justin Brownlee, Tanduay Alab Pilipinas – 36 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, 15 of 24 FGs

Heritage Import Player of the Week

Jason Brickman, Mono Vampire Basketball Club

Even if Mono Vampire now has two outstanding imports in Deguara and Mike Singletary, Jason Brickman remains to be the heartbeat of the team. The Filipino-American’s playmaking has been vital to their success and his willingness to share the ball makes it easier for the locals to contribute.

Against the Slingers, he almost notched a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists. He had another outstanding game against the Heat even if he put up just six shot attempts as he finished with 6 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Notable Contender:

Tyler Lamb, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team – 25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 10 of 21 FGs
Christian Standhardinger, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team – 25 points, 10 rebounds, 8 of 19 FGs

Local Player of the Week

Delvin Goh, Singapore Slingers

For a second straight week this season, a member of the Singapore Slingers has been selected as the Local Player of the Week.

After losing a close one against Mono Vampire at home, Delvin Goh helped the Slingers score a bounce-back win on the road against their rival Westports Malaysia Dragons in their next outing. Goh has adjusted well to playing alongside a dominant big in Charles and he has the numbers to show for.

This week, the young Singaporean big man normed 14.5 points, 7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2 steals, and a block per game.

He’s certainly looked a lot more light on his feet this season, whether it is creating his offence off the dribble from the perimeter or in the post. If he can continue to develop his outside shooting, you can be sure to see his name around here again some time soon.

Notable Contender:

Ting Chun Hong, Westports Malaysia Dragons – 10.5 ppg, 7 rpg, 1 apg, 57 FG%
