The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers were formed in 2006, where the team competed in the Australian National Basketball League's 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 seasons.
The team has a number of investors who own shares in the organisation, including their current major shareholders Mr. Mark Chang, CEO and founder of JobStreet.com, Mr. Wee Siew Kim, President of the Basketball Association of Singapore, Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia Group and Mr. Chow Yen Lu.
Through their passion for the game, the owners of the team coined the name 'Slingers' as a reference to slinging or shooting the ball into the basket, though one could not be faulted for thinking it referred to Singapore's most popular drink the Singapore Sling.
