A bunch of outstanding individual performances augured in 2016 in the first week of the ASEAN Basketball League competitions in the new year, where for the first time this season, a local was named as the Best Player of the Week.
After averaging 9.3 points per game, Qingde Wu exploded against the Pilipinas MX3 Kings where he scored 21 points, shooting 7 of 15 from the field, and adding 3 rebounds and a block.
With the league leading Slingers struggling on offense, Wu stepped up to help Singapore avert a disastrous loss to the league minnows at home. Wu’s performance helped the Slingers move up to the very top of the standings with a 10-2 record after their 63-57 win over Pilipinas MX3.
The honorable mentions are led by Xavier Alexander who posted 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in the Slingers’ 73-65 win over Mono Vampire Basketball Club.
Arizona Reid also posted monster numbers this week as he started with 34 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in a 103-88 loss to the Heat and following up with 24 points and 14 rebounds in a loss to the Slingers.
The last Player of the Week William Creekmore had another outstanding individual performance with 24 points, 26 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal but he was the only player on point against the Dragons. Westports Malaysia was led by Calvin Godfrey’s 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals.
