Indonesia Warriors’ Head Coach Todd Purves Voted ABL Season 3 Coach of the Year

Following the announcement of the Player Award nominees in May 2012, the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League has completed the tabulation of votes and will reveal the recipients of the player awards this week.

The first category to be revealed is Coach of the Year for Season 3 2012, the winner of which was determined via a peer voting system where the head coaches from each team this season was given one vote each.

The winner of the ASEAN Basketball League’s inaugural Coach of the Year 2012 is Coach Todd Purves from the Indonesia Warriors.

“Well, to be honest I have never really thought about any personal awards as we just have a team concept. With all the good coaches in the ABL, I am truly suprised. I am more than humbled by the respect of my peers.” said Coach Purves on winning the award.

Purves came to the Warriors after spending six seasons with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings’ front office staff as video coordinator and advance scout. In his position with the Kings, Purves aided the coaching staff and player personnel staff in scouting opponents and preparing for the NBA draft.

It was a roller coaster season for the Warriors, having started the season with a record of 1 win and 3 losses but when they were fighting for a playoffs spot in April, Purves made a big change in his team and signed Evan Brock and Stanley Pringle.

With Brock and Pringle on the team, the Warriors ended the season on a five-game winning streak and earned a date with the second ranked AirAsia Philippine Patriots in the ABL Playoffs. The Warriors then dispatched the Season 1 ABL Champions in two games before facing off against the league toppers San Miguel Beermen.

Now the Warriors are off an important win last Saturday which saw them push the AirAsia ABL Season 3 2012 Finals Series to the decisive game 3 which they will play this Saturday, the 30th of June at Ynares Sports Arena, Philippines which will determine the winner of the AirAsia ABL Season 3 Champions.
