Basketball fans in Malaysia will get a big treat on Monday as their Westports Malaysia Dragons will face off against the US Professional Basketball Alumni (PBAA) squad which feature Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant, Jason Williams and other National Basketball Association legends.

The  USPBAA will play against the Westports Malaysia Dragons on Monday July 16th at Malawati Indoor Stadium in Shah Alam. Seven of the Dragons’ local players will feature in the squad this Monday but the Dragons will also receive a boost from a few other familiar faces from the ABL, including Mario Wuysang (Indonesia Warriors), Rob Wainwright (AirAsia Philippine Patriots), Desmond Oh (Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers), Ratdech Kruatiwa (Bangkok Cobras) and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn (Chang Thailand Slammers).

In anticipation of the matchup, the event organizers XBALLER held a press conference earlier today at the Holiday Inn in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Malaysia which was attended by President of US PBAA Charles Smith, PBAA’s head coach Oscar Robertson and NBA legends Dennis Rodman, Jason Williams, Horace Grant and Mitch Ritchmond.

The press conference was opened by Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Higher Education, who said “I’m grateful that the US PBAA has chosen Malaysia as one of the countries to play. It  is such a great opportunity for our local basketball fans to watch such high quality of basketball performance.”

The US PBAA’s president Charles Smith hopes this event will help the development of basketball in Malaysia. “It is our dream to get involved with the country of Malaysia to develop youth basketball and find the next Jeremy Lin in the midst of your youth and that’s very possible,” said Smith. He also promises everyone that it will be an exciting game on Monday. “They (Dragons) are much younger than us but we are looking forward to a good game. We’ll be out there to give a good show and a great game.”

Horace  Dennis

Dennis Rodman is honored to be in Malaysia. “I’m very happy to be here and honored just to come to another culture. Basketball has grown so fast now around the world. I hope we can give everybody a good show,” said Rodman who was very entertaining during the press conference. Rodman made a joke when he introduced Horace Grant. “Here is the guy whose place I took in Chicago,” said Rodman referring to when he joined the Bulls in 1995 and Grant was moved to the Orlando Magic.

Grant made a simple statement about the game. "We are ready to beat the Dragons." Former NBA Champion Jason Williams also warns the Dragons."You guys are in big trouble," said the point guard who was really known for his flashy passing skills

Dragons' newest Chief Executive Officer Bobby Ong closed the press conference "I think this a big opportunity for the development of basketball for our country and really looking forward to a great game on Monday."
