Westports Malaysia Dragons 88:105 JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers

Wednesday May 9th ,2012, 8pm local time tip off, MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Don DulayThe Westports Malaysia Dragons found their third spot finish on the line tonight when the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers demolished them 105-88 in front of their home crowd. If the Indonesia Warriors win their match this Sunday which is also against the Slingers, the Dragons will finish fourth on the standings and will be matched up against the current top seeded San Miguel Beermen in the playoffs.

It was a relatively even first half but the Slingers pulled away in the second quarter with an 11-2 run capped by a three from Wong Wei Long to grab themselves a 13 point lead at 41 to 28. They continued to steadily build on their lead and at the halftime buzzer the Slingers held a very comfortable 62 to 39 lead in front of a stunned Dragons home crowd.

The Slingers were very efficient in the first half, completing 68% from the field compared to the Dragons’ 47%. They also moved the ball around the court very well and even outrebounded the Dragons’ 17 to 10.

The night was looking worse and worse for the Dragons as the second half saw Brian Williams hit the floor hard and limp off the court three minutes into the third quarter. Fortunately for the Dragons, he was able to rejoin his team on the court after a quick examination.

The Slingers continued their incredible run and earned themselves a massive 30 point lead with a little over three minutes to go until the fourth at 76 to 46. Their third spot finish on the line, the Dragons slowly tried to climb their way back into the game but the Slingers were on fire tonight and recorded their first over 100 score this season as they completed the game with an incredible 105-88 win at MABA Stadium.

Louis Graham finished the game with 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Slingers while Donald Dulay grabbed 24 points. Kyle Jeffers rounded up the Slingers’ top three scorers with 16 points.

Brian Williams topped the leaderboard for the Dragons with 30 points and 13 rebounds, Tiras Wade not far behind him with 27 points. Amongst the rest of the Dragons squad only Loh Shee Fai managed double digits in scoring with 10 points.

The Dragons will be eagerly watching the Slingers next game which is at home in the Singapore Indoor Stadium against the currently fourth placed Indonesia Warriors. A win for the Warriors on Sunday will see them take the third position which means that they will face the second seeded AirAsia Philippine Patriots while the Dragons will face the top seeded San Miguel Beermen.
