AirAsia Philippine Patriots Hires a New Skills Coach for Season 3 Thursday, October 13, 2011, – The AirAsia Philippine Patriots , after their defeat to the Chang Thailand Slammers during Season 2’s final play-offs , are trying to make a strong come back in Season 3 by hiring a new skills coach, former PBA Billy Ray Bates. Billy was hired as the skills coach of the AirAsia Philippine Patriots for the new season which starts officially on the 14th of January 2012.

He’s a legend in the PBA so we believe he can share and teach whatever he knows to our players,” said team owner and sports patron, Mikee Romero, also the president of Harbour Centre. “He was my basketball idol during his first PBA stint, so I want to help him start a new career.”

“Bates is a welcome addition to the team, his presence, I’m sure, will be a great source of inspiration to our young players,” added Tony Boy Cojuangco, team owner of the AirAsia Philippine Patriots.

Bates was inducted to the PBA Hall of Fame during the league’s opener last Oct. 2, where he signified his interest to work as a coach in the country like fellow former PBA imports Norman Black (Ateneo) and Bobby Parks (San Miguel). 3 months left to the start of Season 3, who will win the Season 3 championship? Stay tune!
