Beermen and Warriors Ready To Battle For 2012 ABL Title

The San Miguel Beermen and Indonesia Warriors were present at a press conference held earlier today at the San Miguel Corporation headquarters in Manila, Philippines.

The press conference was held ahead of the highly anticipated Game 1 of the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League 2012 Finals Series between the two teams tomorrow. Beermen were represented by HeadCoach Bobby Parks, team consultant Rajko Toroman and Chris Banchero while the Warriors were represented by Head Coach Todd Purves, Stanley Pringle and Steven Thomas.

Coach Purves started off this afternoon’s proceedings with a short statement, “It is an honour for us to play against the Beermen. They have great history and represents excellence in basketball in South East Asia for a long time. An opportunity like this is very special for us.”

Beermen’s Head Coach Bobby Parks is also very excited to be heading into the finals.  “It’s going to be an exciting series. Two great teams, great management and great coaching staff. It will be a great series and the ABL has done a great job.”

The ABL’s Chief Operating Officer Ridi Jayakusuma was also present to speak on behalf of the ABL at this press conference. “On behalf of the ABL, the league would like to congratulate both teams for a great season. Both the Beermen and Warriors fully deserve to be in the finals. We are going to have a brand new champion this season which tells us how fast the league is growing.”

One of the main storylines heading into the series is the battle between the league’s top two point guards, Chris Banchero  and Stanley Pringle. Pringle insists that he is not letting the match-up bother him too much. “I haven’t really thought about it too much. I’m not really worried about match-ups.” Pringle said at the press conference. “I just want to play hard and play smart as a team.”

Coach Purves also took the opportunity to make what will definitely be an exciting announcement for Warriors fans with regards to Pringle. “Stanley has signed with the Warriors for the next two seasons exclusively, the only exception being if would like to do anything with the Philippine national team. He will have flexibility during the off season.” said Coach Purves about Pringle’s contract.

For his part, Banchero is expecting a tough series against the Warriors. “It will be a tough series for both teams. It’s going to come down to rebounding and defense. We have been working on that in practice. If we can a good job of rebounding and defense, we will be in a good shape.” said Banchero about the keys winning this series.

The first game in this best of three Finals series between the San Miguel Beermen and Indonesia Warriors will tip off tomorrow, Saturday the 16th of June 2012, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Philippines. This game will also be televised live on ESPN at 4pm local time.
