The World’s Best Budget Airlines launched AirAsia asean today at a ceremony held in their head offices in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the eve of the 45th Anniversary of the Association of South East Asian Nations or ASEAN.
The event was kickstarted with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Group CEO Tony Fernandes as well as some of the AirAsia CEOs from the other hubs, including the newly appointment Aireen Omar from AirAsia Malaysia, Azran Osman Rani CEO of AirAsia X, Kazuyuki Iwakata CEO of AirAsia Japan and Tassapon Bijleveld CEO of AirAsia Thailand.
The press conference was attended by AirAsia’s Group CEO and co-founder of the ASEAN Basketball League Tony Fernandes, who spoke about the main initiative for AirAsia asean. “The establishment of the AirAsia asean office in Jakarta as our regional base is to help to more fully deliver on our pledge – Now Everyone Can Fly – to all the people of ASEAN and beyond,” said Mr. Fernandes.
He continues, “We are blessed to be located in a part of the world where economic growth is expected to be sustained despite the chilly economic winds blowing through Europe and the United States. Shifting AirAsia’s emphasis to a regional strategy is, we believe, not just good business, but also a move that will keep us ahead of the inevitable competition that is heading our way.”
