ABL Standouts Ravena, Jose Called Up For Philippines National Team Practice

In preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 and South East Asian Games 2017, the Philippines National Team has called up 15 players to commence practice starting this June 20.

Among those 15 are two standouts from the recent ASEAN Basketball League season: Alab Pilipinas’ Kiefer Ravena and Kaohsiung Truth’s Raymar Jose.

Ravena was a late addition to the Alab Pilipinas roster and didn’t join the team until the first round of the ABL playoffs. He wasn’t able to help Alab get past the Singapore Slingers, but it wasn’t due to a lack of effort as Ravena posted 29.3 minutes, 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.

In his first season of professional basketball, Raymar Jose averaged 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 22.1 minutes as the Heritage Import of the Kaohsiung Truth. Jose struggled early on with foul trouble, but gained confidence and experience as the season progressed to be come one of the Kaohsiung Truth’s best players with one Player of the Week award as evidence.

Both Jose and Ravena have had their fair share of experience on the Philippines National Team and it comes to no surprise that the two have the opportunity to represent their nation once again should they make the final roster.

ABL 2015-2016 Heritage Import MVP, Matthew Wright, was also called up as well as Mac Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, Ed Daquioag, Kevin Ferrer, Fonzo Gotladera, Jio Jalalon, Von Pessumal, Roger Pogoy, Christian Standhardinger, Mike Tolomia, Kobe Paras, and Almond Vosotros.
