After playing their most recent game against the Saigon Heat without Reggie Johnson (due to personal reasons), the Mono Vampire Basketball Club have now officially cut ties with the former World Import replacing him with Samuel Deguara.
Johnson had been averaging 22.7 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 52.2% from the field in 6 games with Mono Vampire before the release.
Deguara is listed at 7’4″ and 330 lbs which dwarfs Johnsons’ listed measurements of 6’10” and 315 lbs. As a team that’s offense revolves around three-point shooting, Mono Vampire BC are addressing their need for someone to draw defenders away from their shooters and to protect the rim by signing Deguara.
Despite being just 26-years-old, Deaguara has played professionally for nearly 10 years since signing a contract when he was 16. His basketball journey has gone from his hometown of Malta to Italy, Spain, Canada, Thailand, and Malaysia among other stints here and there.
In Thailand, he played against the Mono Vampire Basketball Club in the Thailand Basketball League for PEA Basketball Club. He teamed up with Malaysia Dragons’ Heritage Import Joshua Munzon and made it to the playoffs after averaging 14.1 points and 18.1 rebounds.
Mono Vampire already have the most efficient offensive in the ABL, leading the league in both FG% (49.4%) and two-point FG% (58.5%). Deguara will be providing then with an even more efficient option to choose from, his towering size that makes it easier to score near the rim. He should also be a big factor on the defensive end where the Vampire BC are allowing 44.8% from the field, third worst in the league.
Deguara will be making his debut for Mono Vampire BC when they take on the Formosa Dreamers on January 7th in Taiwan.
