The team with the longest active winning streak in the ABL faces the team with the worst losing skid as San Miguel Alab Pilipinas is looking for its eighth straight win at the expense of the Formosa Dreamers who are on an 11-game losing slide.
Coming off a win against the CLS Knights Indonesia in their last game, Alab is oozing with confidence led by Renaldo Balkman who has won his second straight World Import Player of the Week honors. The former New York Knick averaged 33.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game last week as he was the foundation of Alab’s twin victories.
Although Justin Brownlee has not been shooting well as of late, Alab’s streak continued because of the stellar play of their locals, specifically Josh Urbiztondo and reigning Local MVP Ray Parks.
Formosa, on the other end, is hoping that their new import Cameron Forte can help alter their fate in the season. He had 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 assists in their last game against Singapore, shooting 10 of 20 from the field. However, this still was not enough to snap their losing skid.
Ronnie Aguilar is averaging a double-double with 17.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game but they need their locals to step up, especially Wu Sung Wei who has failed to score in double-digits in their last two games.
Alab is chasing the Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team and the Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club for one of the top two spots and they could not afford to drop a game for the Dreamers.
Formosa, on the other hand, still have a very slim chance of making it to the playoffs but there’s no room for error for them anymore.
