Playing their final game of the elimination round, the Singapore Slingers and Saigon Heat both want to carry some momentum heading into the quarterfinals as they face off at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
With the Slingers holding the fifth spot with a 11-8 win loss tally and the Heat right behind them at 10-9, both teams no longer have a shot at qualifying for the top two which means they’ll have to go through a best-of-three quarterfinals to barge into the Final Four.
The Saigon Heat have a change to overtake the 5th seed if they can beat the Singapore Slingers by 19 points in today’s game as a result of Head-to-Head point differential.
In their first matchup, Singapore clobbered Saigon 94-76 at the OCBC Arena as the Slingers their size against the smaller Heat. Chris Charles dominated that game with 24 points, 29 rebounds, and six blocks. This means that Saigon’s Maxie Esho must step up his game to give his team a shot at closing out the elimination round with a victory. The Heat were lacking some firepower as Moses Morgan sat the game out with a hyper-extended knee.
The Slingers are coming off an easy win against the Formosa Dreamers where their prolific World Imports Charles and Xavier Alexander took a step back to allow Heritage Import AJ Mandani and Russel Low to shine. Mandani had 24 points and three steals while Low scored 15 points.
Saigon, on the other hand, took care of business against the Westports Malaysia Dragons where four of their starters scored in double-digits with only Moses Morgan coming up a little short with nine.
The key matchup for this game will be between Alexander and Akeem Scott as the two talented World Imports serve as catalysts for their respective squads.
Alexander is a triple-double threat every single game as he norms 22.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while Scott is the more deadly scorer, averaging 25.0 points per contest while shooting 52% from the field.
The two teams will be starting their quarterfinal duels against their yet-to-be-determined opponents on the road so they have to carry a lot of confidence heading into the playoffs, which they could get a win against each other.
